Born in 2005 out of boredom and
a lack of challenging music radio programming,
Homegrown Podcast has become a twice monthly multi genre mixed
music &
spoken word podcast with a very broad ear. Each & every programme
is built
from the bottom up by its producer and host Nic Treadwell, by
handpicking
tracks he finds scattered around the world wide web and beyond
(often into
the very early hours).
Nic has always firmly believed
that the worlds of poetry and song should co-exist
with each other, having the potential to take the listener on an
emotional and
personal journey of creativity and understanding. Each and every
Homegrown
is peppered with a sprinkling of poetry and spoked word artists
that complimen
t and add to the musical mix.
In 2010 the podcast was kicked
out of Treadwell Towers (the home he shares with
wife & son) and transplanted, literally, into his new purpose built
man shed, where
he now broadcasts to the world. God only knows what the neighbours
must think
when he staggers down the garden at 2am after uploading another
eclectic playlist.
No one edition of the podcast is
the same, offering up music from the world over,
whether pitting Saharan Toureg against Swedish pop, or letting
British folk rub
shoulders with Austrailan electronica. From blues to bluegrass, and
roots to rock,
taking in gospel and experimental music along the way, the podcast
certainly
covers a lot of ground.
Like its host, whose
broadcasting heroes include John Peel, Andy Kershaw and
Bob Harris, the programme does not shy away from broadening its
horizions, along
the way discovering both breathtaking & challenging material that
leaves the listener
wanting more.
